An Irish Daily Mail colour article was found to be prejudicial and has led to a jury being dismissed in a libel action case against Ireland on Sunday, now the Irish Mail on Sunday.

The High Court libel action was taken by broadcaster Paddy
O’Gorman against Associated Newspapers. O’Gorman is suing the paper group over an
article published in 2003 which he claims accused him of displaying
"perverted sexuality" while taking part in the RTE Celebrity Farm reality
TV show.

The Sligo Champion, one of the last remaining independent local Irish newspapers, is being put up for sale.

RTE’s investigative journalism programme, Prime Time, has had a complaint against it upheld by the Broadcasting Complaints Commission.

A complaint against the broadcaster’s soap opera, Fair City, was also upheld. Both are in relation to mental health issues.

Meanwhile, a further seven complains against various programmes, shows, and advertisements were rejected.

A new Dublin freesheet, the Dublin Informer, has been recently launched. The paper is a features paper, rather then newspaper.

The Informer says it deliveries 250,000 copies directly to letterboxes once a fortnight.

"You will notice that we don’t have any news pages. That’s because we
are a features driven paper where each page has a dedicated content and
we have striven to find contributors who can bring you accurate
information and who can write knowledgeably about their own particular
area of expertise," said editor Niall Gormley on Informer.ie.

Five Dublin newspapers have settled libel cases against them taken by Julia Kushnir, a Ukrainian interpreter who survived the car crash in which former TD Liam Lawlor died.

Kushnir’s solicitor, Brian Lynch, told RTE Radio that the delay of over
two years was due to "Huge resistances by the papers generally fighting
this case". He added that "She is very happy with the outcome, and she
is very releaved that it is all over now".

The Sunday Tribune sacked Richard Delevan yesterday morning from his post of business editor, according to the blog of a technology columnist for the newspaper.

"Richard Delevan is no longer Business Editor of the Sunday Tribune
after being fired this morning," wrote Damien Mulley, blogger and tech columnist. "Rumours were going around today that
staff in le Trib were told he was kicked out".

The reason for the reported sacking is currently unconfirmed.

Northern Ireland blog, threethousandversts.blogspot.com, asks if, with problems such as community divides, could Northern Ireland sustain a quality newspaper.

The Unionist blogger also appears to have strong views on the IN&M-owned Belfast Telegraph…

Could NI sustain a quality newspaper? I don’t know but I hate the fecking Belfast Telegraph!

The standard of local newspapers in Northern Ireland is deplorably bad. I refer not to the frequently hilarious “man urinates in main street” ‘local-local’ newspapers from the various regions of the province, but rather what passes for our “national” journalism.

- Publication admits to breaches

The Irish Financial Regulator has fined the Phoenix magizine for breaches of rules on writhing about shares.

The regulator said yesterday that a fine of €5,000 was imposed after Penfield Enterprises Ltd and publisher Mr John Mulcahy admitted to breaking the Market Abuse Regulations rules.
